Illinois Peregrine Falcons: From Decline to Recovery?

Once on the Endangered Species List and extirpated in Illinois from 1951 until 1986, the Peregrine Falcon population is now past historic levels. The District is excited to welcome guest speaker Mary Hennen for a special presentation that takes us through the recovery of the Peregrine Falcon in Illinois. Ms. Hennen is Director-Chicago Peregrine Program, Bird Division of The Field Museum and author of The Peregrine Returns (University of Chicago Press). As the majority of this recovered population is now found in an urban habitat, learn what it means to live in close proximity to this remarkable bird. Mary's presentation will include photos of some of the beautiful watercolors by Field Museum artist-in-residence Peggy Macnamara that appear as illustrations in Mary's book. There may even be a visit from a live Peregrine Falcon, conditions permitting. A book signing will follow the presentation. Bring your own copy or purchase one on site, made possible by Woodstock independent bookseller Read Between the Lynes.

For Adults and Families. Registration and fee required: County Residents Free (NR $5.00).
