Native Flora and Wildlife Watercolor Exhibit

Native Flora and Wildlife is a juried exhibit of nearly 30 vibrant watercolors featuring a diverse array of local native species including wildflowers, songbirds, butterflies, reptiles and birds of prey. The stunning works were painted by members of the Lakes Region Watercolor Guild. The District's goal of developing a greater appreciation for the natural world and its efforts in conservation blend well with the LRWG's purpose of enhancing, enriching and furthering work in watercolor to promote a better understanding of creative art and to make it available in the community. This project encouraged members to focus on and learn about truly native local species while boosting spirits and stoking creativity. Opportunities to exhibit are welcomed by the group, to which members have enthusiastically responded—reflecting nature's beauty in art and reminding of the need for its protection.

Formed in 1985 with an initial core of seven members, the LRWG has grown to over 140 members, primarily from southern Wisconsin and Lake and McHenry Counties in Illinois. The group's focus is on education, with demonstrations and workshops by local and nationally known artists. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month, September through May, 9:00 a.m. until noon, at the State Bank of the Lakes in Grayslake, IL.
