Run Wild - Race for Open Space 5k

Connect with your wild self on a run through the wide-open spaces! This 5k trail race, which coincides with National Public Lands Day, journeys through woodland, prairie and riverfront habitats. Enjoy the colors of fall with stunning views of wildflowers, grasses and towering oak and hickory trees along the wooded trail. This timed event features moderate terrain to provide an exciting and challenging experience for runners of all skill levels.

Race starts at 8:30 a.m. and offers awards for overall and age group. Cost: $35/ $40 day of event/Early Registration: $5 off before Aug. 1. Includes t-shirt, race bib, and race day snacks. Registration and details are online at

Get a sneak peek of the race route and training tips at the FREE preview runs on Wednesday, June 28 from 6:307:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 12 from 89 a.m., meet at Hickory Grove Highlands, Shelter #2, Cary. Local running experts Seth Kopf of Kopf Running, RRCA & USATF Certified Running Coach [6/28], and Michele Hartwig, Race Director at Ornery Mule Racing & Founder of MUDD running club (McHenry County Ultrarunning Dudes & Dudettes) [8/12], will guide the group through a warm up, a 30-minute fun run, and a cool down session immediately following the run.
